Experimental and Numerical Pore Scale Study of Residual Gas Saturation in Water/Gas Imbibition Phenomena
Residual gas saturation is one of the most important parameter in determining recovery factor of water-drive gas reservoir. Visual observation of processes occurring at the pore level in micromodels can give an insight to fluid displacements at the larger scale and also help the interpretation of production performance at reservoir scale. In this study experimental tests in a glass micromod...
متن کاملA Parallel Multiphase Numerical Modelfor Subsurface Contaminant Transportwith Biodegradation Kinetics
We discuss the formulation of a simulator in three spatial dimensions for two phase groundwater ow and transport with biodegradation kinetics that has been developed at Rice University for massively parallel, distributed memory, message passing machines. The numerical procedures employed are a fully implicit mixed nite element method for ow and a characteristics-mixed method for transport and r...
متن کاملRecent developments in numerical modelling of subsurface flow constructed wetlands.
Numerical modelling of subsurface flow constructed wetlands (CWs) gained increasing interest during the last years. The main objective of the modelling work is, on the one hand, to increase the insight in dynamics and functioning of the complex CW system by using mechanistic or process based models that describe transformation and degradation processes in detail. As these mechanistic models are...
متن کاملDissolution kinetics of high explosives particles in a saturated sandy soil.
Solid phase high explosive (HE) residues from munitions detonation may be a persistent source of soil and groundwater contamination at military training ranges. Saturated soil column tests were conducted to observe the dissolution behavior of individual components (RDX, HMX, and TNT) from two HE formulations (Comp B and C4). HE particles dissolved readily, with higher velocities yielding higher...
متن کاملNumerical Modelling of Coupled Surface and Subsurface Flow Systems
This paper presents and compares several numerical solutions of the coupled system of Navier-Stokes and Darcy equations. The schemes are based on combinations of the finite element method and the discontinuous Galerkin method. Accuracy and robustness of the methods are investigated for heterogeneous porous media. The importance of local mass conservation for filtration problems is also discussed.
